As US President Trump and Russia’s Putin are agreeing to remove Iran from Syria, Today’s News Summaries focuses on the kinds of manifestations of violent Islamism we face today. From Southern California to and Havat Gilad, Samaria, attacks on innocent, unarmed civilians by cowardly terrorists continue. Despite this, there is a need for us to consider peaceful intention. Zhudi Jasser is featured in our final article as an example of the kinds of Muslims needed to advocate separation of mosque and state and speak out boldly against the ideology of “political Islam” or Islamism which plagues our world with violence more today than ever before.

Trump, Putin, Agree to Push Iran Out of Syria
By David Israel for JewishPress.org – 6 Elul 5778 – August 17, 2018
Many were wondering at the time what Presidents Trump and Putin were talking about when they met for two hours behind closed doors in Helsinki last July, raising speculations regarding Trump’s troubles from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of a collusion between the two prior to the 2016 elections. There was a lot of that, as well as a discussion of extending two arms control treaties between the US and Russia. But reports emerging from the White House on Thursday suggest that secret meeting was mostly devoted to Iran’s presence in Syria.
Israeli Woman Killed in Ramming ‘Hit and Run’ Near Havat Gilad
by Hana Levi Julian for JewishPress.org, August 17, 2018
An Israeli woman, reportedly in her 40s, was killed Thursday night after witnesses said an Arab driver hit her with a vehicle near Havat Gilad at the T-junction on Highway 60, between the Jewish communities of Kedumim and Yitzhar, and then fled.
The driver abandoned the vehicle, a Palestinian Authority taxi, and appeared to flee to the nearby Arab village of Jit, according to Ynet, but turned himself in to Palestinian Authority police shortly after, claiming the incident was a hit-and-run accident.
However, Samaria Regional Council chairperson Yossi Dagan maintained, “From the point of view of the military commanders in the field, and from our point of view as well, this is a terror attack for all intents and purposes.
Americans Killed by ISIS on World ‘Kindness’ Tour
by Clarion Project for Clarion Project Thursday, August 16, 2018
The Americans killed by ISIS in Tajikstan in an attack by ISIS at the end of last month were on a world tour to prove that “humans are kind.”
“You read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place,” Austin wrote on his blog. “People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil.
“I don’t buy it,” he continued. “Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own… By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind.”

From Los Angeles to San Diego County, Southern California is a hotbed of Islamism. With a census of 500,000 Muslims, Southern California is home to pocket communities of ethnically diverse Muslims and flocks of Latino converts. It hosts 120 mosques and has some of the first Islamic schools in the country, with many more following suit over the last 10 years.
Southern California is unfortunately also a hotspot for Islamist extremism. At least 18 Southern California residents have been linked to Islamist terrorism since 9/11. The most notable of these were the San Bernardino shooters, who abandoned their infant child to gun down employees at a holiday party held for mental and behavioral health service workers.
Being Pro-Muslim in a Complicated World
by Denis MacEoin for GatestoneInstitute.org – August 17, 2018 at 5:30
No doubt those who ignore or cover up abuses such as beatings, female genital mutilation or general repression do so out of cultural sensitivity, deferring to traditionalist leaders and self-appointed representatives of various communities, including Muslim bodies. Their sensitivity, however, can end up gravely impairing the lives of literally hundreds of millions of Muslim women in allowing harmful practices to be perpetuated.
Genuine humanitarian concerns about injustice to Muslims, however, have been mingled with a political and religious attitude that condemns anyone who expresses even the mildest questioning of Islam — so much so, in fact, that many well-intentioned Western politicians, human rights advocates, church leaders and journalists have turned Islam into the one and only ideology that must never be criticized, and have called anyone who so much as comments on some of the precepts of Islam as “racist.”
