JISS fellow Dr. Jonathan Spyer traveled in late July to the SDF enclave in eastern Syria. He reports that maintenance of this enclave is critical to keeping a substantial physical obstacle to the Iranian goal of a contiguous corridor from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean. The Trump administration is supposedly considering declassifying a State Department report that tallies up the true number of Palestinian refugees.
If Trump does this, the repercussions could go a long way to settling the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, or UNRWA, classifies refugees unlike any other organization in the world, and in a way that contradicts common sense. MIDDLE EAST FORUM – Clifford Smith – August 12, 2018 DISCUSSION of Palestinian Refugee Conflict

Israel and Hamas are reportedly on the verge of reaching a ceasefire agreement following a lull in fighting after a major flareup last week that saw the sides on the cusp of a full-scale military confrontation.
An Israeli official told the Los Angeles Times that a deal with the terror group that rules the Strip is “virtually done.”
There was no official Israeli confirmation of progress toward a deal, but senior defense officials are set to discuss easing a closure of the Palestinian enclave later Tuesday.
Israeli and Hamas officials have reportedly been engaged in intensive efforts via Egypt and the UN in recent weeks to reach a long-term deal to return calm to the restive border region in exchange for easing restrictions on the Strip. Last week a Hamas official predicted a truce would be inked by the end of the month.
Israel has officially been mum on the talks with Hamas, an Islamist terrorist group which seized control of the Strip in 2007 and seeks to destroy Israel.

Seriously? If they had been Christian and white, stockpiling weapons and plotting school shootings, with the ringleader being the son of one of the most respected Christian preachers in the country, there wouldn’t have been news coverage of anything else for weeks. There would have been feature stories in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal. CNN and MSNBC would be running special reports on toxic Christianity and the crisis in the churches.
This incident, on the other hand, received very little coverage, and hardly any that touched on the Islamic aspects of the story. But Muslim claims of victimhood are so polished and reflexive by now, and the Leftist acceptance of them so matter-of-fact and instinctive, that Judge Sarah Backus fell right into line. We can only hope that no one dies because of her folly.
Imam in Austrian mosque calls on youth to establish Islamic State and wage Jihad
A mobile phone video, taken inside the Viennese Taiseer mosque, shows how imams call on youths to create an Islamic State, Austrian newspaper Krone reports.
While one imam calls youth to establish an Islamic state as “they have the most important roles in jihad and proselytising”, another preaches against so-called unbelievers.
Congratulating Christians on religious festivals is something like “haram” – which is forbidden. “It’s like prostration to the cross. For Allah worse than drinking alcohol,” says Imam Zakaria M. Other imams present are Sheik El-Said F and Aiman M.
Islam expert Amer Albayati strongly criticises the speech: “Political Islam is a threat to social peace and our security, it must be stopped immediately.”
The Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) has filed a complaint with the prosecutor. According to the National Council club chairman Johann Gudenus, “The Muslim Brotherhood also appear in the mosque and spread there anti-Austrian, anti-Christian and anti-democratic ideas”.

JERUSALEM — For the first time, the National Defense Authorization Act includes a section on U.S.-Israel cooperation in countering unmanned aerial systems, in the fiscal 2019 version.
The cooperation will identify “capability gaps” of the U.S. and Israel in countering UAVs and seek out projects to address those gaps to strengthen U.S. and Israeli security. The new cooperation envisions funding for research and development efforts and identifying costs that foresee close cooperation modeled on previous successful programs that Israel and the U.S. have collaborated on, including missile defense and anti-tunneling initiatives.
Israel and the U.S. have been at the forefront of air defense cooperation for decades. U.S. Reps. Charlie Crist and Mike Johnson introduced in February a bill titled “United States-Israel Joint Drone Detection Cooperation Act.” Parts of the bill were included in the NDAA passed in both houses of Congress in July.
“I am honored to have our bill included in the NDAA and to see it signed into law by President [Donald] Trump. This is an important step not only for our strongest ally in the Middle East but for the United States as well,” Johnson said in July. The president signed the NDAA into law on the afternoon of Aug. 13.
